The energy sector always offers an interesting look at the overall state of our economy and where these economic trends are heading. As we see that much of the world is focused on renewable and green solutions, these changes are being mirrored in the energy sector as well.

Understanding how job growth in this sector is changing is an important part of developing a sound hiring process and determining whether or not this is a good time to either start a new company or grow an existing one.

There is much positive news in 2014 for this sector, and all indicators point to steady growth as the economy continues to bounce back from the disaster of a few years ago. One thing is certain – if you are involved in clean energy, be prepared for some explosive growth over the next year.

Green and Renewable Industries

There were over 1,000,000 clean energy jobs posted during the third quarter of last year. That number is impressive on its own, but when you consider that this represents a growth of over 54%, it’s definitely time to take notice.

Electric and hybrid cars are being embraced by consumers on a large scale and this means that there is a huge need for alternative fueling stations. More than 1500 new stations opened up since the second quarter of 2013 and this number continues to go up. Right now, the states with the highest demand for alternative fuel stations includes Hawaii, Oregon, Washington and Tennessee.

The alternative fuel industry for vehicles isn’t the only one that is growing either. Within the past 30 days, there were over 20,000 new job listings for electrical engineers, with a total of over 70,000 new positions for fields that include clean energy.

What This Means

As the availability of fossil fuels continues to decline and local and world governments look to create solutions, the clean energy industry is going to continue to grow. These are some of the best numbers we have ever seen and it looks as though this unprecedented growth is going to continue.

Innovation is the corner stone of clean energy and as new technologies continue to emerge, companies that are prepared to take advantage of these changes and implement new strategies will be the ones who experience the highest levels of success.
