This week we did some digging to find out which industries are performing best during the COVID-19 pandemic. What we found is that businesses supporting critical infrastructures such as oil and gas, defense and technology providers, chemicals, power and utilities, energy services, and manufacturing have been, and are still doing well. Non-essential businesses are also starting to make a comeback too during phased re-openings, which is great for consumers and those of us looking to get back to a bit normalcy. Some of these non-essential industries that are performing well include:
- Take-out dining services
- Grocers
- Landscaping and yard companies
- Mask makers
- Meal delivery companies
- Fitness providers
- Telehealth providers

We want to emphasize that our recruiters, although working from home, continue to speak with job seekers every day who are moving forward in their searches for positions at essential companies in critical industries.

For a complete list of opportunities, visit our job search page, which is continuously updated throughout the month. Alternatively, you can hop on over to Indeed.com for an extensive list of openings in top-performing industries such as customer service roles, electronics, healthcare, home improvement, insurance, retail, and security.
Contact Tracers and Screeners – Urgent Needs
Ironically, COVID-19 has created opportunities. For instance, there is an ongoing demand for contact tracing jobs, which requires remote workers to call and query respondents about their COVID-19 exposure. Persons in these roles will support the Centers for Disease Control and Protection (CDC) in tracing and monitoring contacts of infected persons. Here at FootBridge, we are also hiring for similar COVID-19 positions, including site access screeners who perform temperature checks on the manufacturing floor. Persons in this role will wear personal protective equipment and glove to ensure their safety. Rates are competitive, and this is an in-demand job.
By the Numbers
When it comes to staffing, It’s important to remain optimistic, and according to LinkedIn data, there are currently 1.5 million entry-level jobs open in the United States right now. If you didn’t see our post on video interviewing tips, you can find that information here. Virtual meetings and interviews are having a profound effect on the hiring process and also fall into the category of industries that are performing well during the time of coronavirus. It used to be that FaceTime, Skype, and Google were the only video tools used by individuals and businesses. Now there are Zoom and Microsoft Teams, which our recruiters frequently use for candidate interviews.
Jobs – What Happens When COVID-19 is Over?
Although we cannot predict when the COVID-19 crisis will end, we encourage job seekers to plan. For instance, looking forward, post COVID-19 industry opportunities will call for in-demand skills such as customer service, leadership, communication, problem-solving, operations, and project management. Visit our career development page for more information on these topics. Also, of note, out of the 20.5 million jobs lost due to COVID-19, 18.1 million were denoted as temporary. This means, as non-essential businesses begin to reopen, many of these positions may resume. Also, industries of all kinds are taking measures to prepare for the future. The National Association of Manufacturers, for example, just released its American Renewal Plan with three talking points of response, renewal, and recovery.
